xcode4.6 - xCode iOS project. How to create a new project starting for an existing one -

i new xcode , ios , going trough course. assignment 2 enhances assignment 1, want keep project assignment 1 , build ass2 starting copy ass1.

i had gone finder copy folder contains project (for ass1) , related files renamed folder not files in it. double-click on project file sitting in copied folder. doing seems xcode confused using files original folder. difficult reproduce error error appears again , again think not me doing wrong.

should not create new projects way? best way "duplicate" project , related files?

just go on folder of assignment1, right click on , select "duplicate". rename duplicated folder assignment2
