the other solutions provided issue dont work me behind authenticated proxy server. ip 172.31.77.59, dns servers 172.31.100.8 , 172.31.100.9 , proxy server 172.31.100.29
i searched commands. output of cat /etc/network/interfaces is
auto lo iface lo inet loopback maybe helps in solving problem
go /etc/apt/conf , insert http_proxy="http://username:password@server:port".
you should set systemwide variable export http_proxy... .put ~/.bashrc , restart.
